The traditional festival “The Languages Assortment of Belgorod State University” brought together university students and schoolchildren of Belgorod
The festival “The Languages Assortment of Belgorod State University” was held at the university on the basis of the Centre of Intercultural Communication. This annual event is timed to coincide with the International Mother Language Day and is part of the Russian Language Worldwide Promotion Programme (2021-2025). The festival was initiated by the Department of Russian Language, Professional Speech and Intercultural Communication of the Institute of Russian and Foreign Languages. It was attended by students and lecturers from all the institutes of Belgorod State University, students of the partner universities, teachers and pupils of schools of Belgorod and Belgorod region.
This year the festival was attended by the representatives of six secondary schools in the region. The participants were welcomed by Nikolai Tsybulia, the Head of International Cooperation Department and Olga Prokhorova, the Director of the Institute for Intercultural Communication and International Relations. They stressed the importance of mother tongue preserving and learning as well as significance of foreign languages study.
This year the festival was dedicated to greeting vocabulary. Students from Russia, Angola, Afghanistan, Haiti, India, China, Colombia, Morocco, Tajikistan, Togo, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ecuador presented to the festival guests the meaning, etymology and grammar rules for using greetings in their native languages. Poems and songs dedicated to these words were performed in Russian, Ukrainian, French, Creole, Spanish and Persian.
