The Institute of Law is a successor of the Law Department, which was established at Belgorod State Pedagogical Institute on May 20, 1993.
The Institute trains specialists for the legislative, executive and judicial branches, local government bodies, institutions of justice, prosecution and internal affairs, customs authorities, notarial system and public defender’s offices, legal departments, institutions and organizations.

The quality of training professional lawyers is ensured by a high-level qualification of the Institute faculty. In total, about 100 faculty members work at the Institute, 75% of them holding academic degrees and titles, including 20 Doctors Habil. of Sciences, Professors. Among the faculty, there are honored lawyers of the Russian Federation and honored educators of higher school.
In order to effectively implement the idea of practice-oriented education, lawyers, , judges, employees of the court, prosecutor's office and other law enforcement agencies are involved in teaching activities on a part-time basis . Such interaction brings positive results and is one of the conditions for quality education.

The training in the Graduate School is carried out in the following Master’s degree programs: Civil Law, Family Law, Private International Law; Criminal Law and Criminology; Penitentiary Law; Public International Law, European Law; Legal Support of Business (Business Lawyer); Lawyer in Civil and Criminal Cases, etc.
Students of the Institute of Law of Belgorod State National Research University (BelSU) have an opportunity to study for one semester at the following university partners: University of Belgrade (Serbia), Veliko Tarnovo University of Saints Cyril and Methodius (Bulgaria), and Samarkand State University (Uzbekistan).
Thanks to the trilateral agreements on joint supervision and defense of dissertations concluded between BelSU, foreign university partners and PhD students, graduates of the post-graduate school of the Institute of Law have the opportunity to defend their dissertations to obtain a PhD degree from a foreign university-partner.
The modern facilities and equipment at the Institute of Law allow for conducting all types of training sessions according to the curricula for each major.
Educational courtrooms are used for running demonstrative educational trials for students. Students can also put theory to practice in crime scene simulation facilities and laboratories: of forensic photography and forensic video recording, trace evidence analysis, handwriting analysis, document forensics, and application of physical and chemical research methods.
The facilities and equipment provide the faculty with an opportunity to carry out effective and efficient teaching, applying the selected teaching technologies and methods.
A lot of work is being done at the Institute to educate and develop students' personal qualities. Students and graduates are among winners of All-Russian and international competitions and festivals. Traditionally, the Institute regularly hosts various sports competitions and creative contests.
The major goal for the faculty today is to create a modern learning environment for students, in which they will be able not only to acquire modern knowledge and skills, but also to learn about life itself.
