At the meeting of Rector’s Public council the results of the foreign-language education development program and suggestions for its modernization have been considered
The meeting of Rector’s Public council dedicated to the development of foreign-language education took place at BelSU. Representatives of administration of the university, institutes and departments, and the staff of BelSU have taken part in it.
In the report the vice rector for the international cooperation of BelSU Vladislav Kuchmisty has noted that the target program of foreign-language education development is necessary for creation of the foreign-language environment facilitating communication between the students speaking different languages, teachers and employees. The program means internal and international certification of students, increasing in level of communicative readiness for the academic mobility.
Modernization of foreign-language education means the organization of scientific and methodical and language training, including the Summer language School which takes place at Nezhegol recreational complex, development of the international educational projects and programs and also strengthening of material and technical resources of the university.
According to Vladislav Kuchmisty, this program increases appeal of higher education institution to partners and entrants.
In 2017 75% of students of BelSU have been certified. For today 20 joint educational programs are started, 13 of them are double diploma programs.
Vice rector for study and informatization Alexander Mamatov has suggested to speed up work with school students – future entrants. He has also suggested to work with freshmen, and provide compensating training and additional education to bring them up to necessary language speaking level.
The director of the Center of foreign-language education and the academic mobility Larisa Tsurikova presented projects and programs of cooperation with the international participation. According to her, Belgorod is the third region of Russia where the “English Breakfast” project – viewing of movies in original language is popular. She also declared that from next year BelSU will become the training center of Cambridge examinations in English.
BelSU is among 10 universities of Russia leading by the number of foreign students and level of cooperation with foreign partner higher education institutions, modernizing and developing models of foreign-language education. This year BelSU became a part of Consortium of the Russian education exporters.
Finishing the meeting, the rector of BelSU, Prof. Oleg Polukhin has noted that foreign-language education, certainly, is one of the most important strategic activities of higher education institution, but at the same time it is necessary to remember that it is also about improvement of Russian language for both foreign, and Russian students.
