The botanical garden of BelSU has started development of the target program "Belgorod Lilac"
An initiator of development of the target program directed to improvement of an ecological situation in the region and creation of new unique natural objects is the governor of the Belgorod region Evgeny Savchenko. The head of the region who is the chairman of BelSU supervisory board suggested the administration of the university to develop and realize the program using personnel potential and infrastructure of a botanical garden with the laboratories and greenhouses created there.
Inspirers, assistants and participants of implementation of the program is the group of scientists-selectors from Moscow, authors of lilac breeds: Tatyana Polyakova, vice-president of the International Lilac Society for Russia and Asia, board member of ILS, selector, Olga Aladina, professor of fruit growing department, chief researcher of fruit growing laboratory of the Russian state agricultural university, member of IL), Sergey Aladin, candidate of agricultural sciences, member of ILS, Anastasia Aladina, ecologist, member of ILS.
The group of scientists has arrived to BelSU for discussion of project implementation, new to Belgorod region. The working meeting with the Moscow scientists and employees of BelSU Botanical garden was held by the rector, professor Oleg Polukhin. Then ideas have been presented to the governor Evgeny Savchenko.
The task is to create the largest collection of lilac breeds in Russia (not less than 300) at BelSU Botanical Garden and receive lilac breeds of the Belgorod selection.
