The Apex of Archaeological Training

Ms Zhurbenko, a 4^th year history and philology student at the Pedagogical Institute, was selected for an internship in Moscow, specifically in the History of Ceramics group within the Institute of Archaeology. Dr Yuri Tsetlin trained her in how to study samples of ceramics with different mineral impurities, and how to make up identification systems for each impurity. This allows the researcher to identify artificially (human) introduced additives on any given archaeological material. She then conducted her own scientific research on ceramics recovered from the forest and steppe-dwelling tribes of the Saltovo-Mayak culture.

The internship was supported with a grant from the BNRU's 'Personal and Professional Development' program, run for the benefit of students at the Pedagogical Institute by Dr Olesya Khoreva, Deputy Director of the Institute.
