The 'Grand Prix Eiffel de l'invention innovation – Paris' was held at the end of November in France. Dr Maxim Ivanov and his team presented their patented method of forming a bioactive coating on the surface of large joint endoprostheses, and brought a gold medal and diploma back to BelSU
Dr Ivanov, who heads BelSU's Centre of Advanced Engineering, had also accepted two gold medals on behalf of the team in June at 'Inventika 2018' in Bucharest. The Romanian judges also awarded a diploma from the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, in recognition of their work.
The patent is registered in Russia, with Kazakhstan, Belarus and Israel pending, and Dr Ivanov hopes that the improved biocompatibility will lead to more operations involving endoprostheses for large joints. He explained that the method of forming bioactive coatings using microarc oxidation, greatly reduces incidences of tissue rejection and attendant side-effects, saying,
“The coating's purpose is to reduce the risk of rejection of prostheses and reduce side-effects from operations. Effectively, the invention reduces the coating's density, and introduces the use of a soft anodic-cathodic method of forming bioactive coating, which allows for group processing of the components of large joint endoprostheses, spreading a porous bioactive glass-ceramic coating on the entire structure, or any given surface of it.”<< Back to the list |
