Chess Success

The Regional round of the Russian Student Sports Association was held in the new Centre for Intellectual Sports at Belgorod State University, and our students swept the board

The competition is sponsored by the University Trades Union and drew participants from Belgorod State Technical University and Belgorod University of Cooperation, Economics and Law, as well as our own.

In the men's competition Vladimir Bazarov came out on top. He beat Grigory Kobzev in the final. Arthur Bondarenko narrowly beat Irhaem Bakr, the highest placed foreign student, for third. Foreign students were well represented, with Laith Shatnawi and Ahmed Ahmed doing particularly well. In the women's tournament, Leila El Hamadani won every one of her 7 games to take victory, beating Natalya Tynaeva, and Anastasia Pyrkina took third.

The winners will represent Belgorod Region at the National final.
