The 1st June sees the launch of new joint project between Belgorod State University and the Belgorod State Philharmonic Society aimed at broadening the appeal of science. The project, #НаукаДжаз (NaukaDzhaz, ScienceJazz) will link listening to learning
The project was unveiled by Professor Oleg Polukhin, Rector of the University, and Svetlana Borukha, Director of the Belgorod State Philharmonic Society, at a press conference organised by the Interfax press agency, a partner of the project. This is the second such project in four years of working together. The first project was the 'НеслуЧАЙные встречи' (Nyesluchayniye Vstrechi, Tea-time Appointments) a series of open-air afternoon concerts at the Botanical Gardens, followed by guided tours through the Gardens. The new project is aimed at popularising science, an appropriate task for a 'National Research University' like ours. The Rector explained,
“We are always looking for new activities that would be interesting for students, and that will motivate them to get involved in research. At this festival, it will be the students themselves who will talk about scientific achievements, and about their research, which is changing the world around us.”
The project will involve an interactive exhibition about science called 'Hands-on Science', and hear from experts on the science of music, art, and medicine. The opening concert will be performed by noted jazz musician, Danil Kramer, and jazz musicians from Moscow, St Petersburg, and Belgorod, in a program arranged by the Belgorod State Philharmonic Society.
