Belgorod State University’s Department of General Chemistry at the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology hosted a day devoted to the achievements of science, as part of celebrations over the founding of Russia's first Chemistry Laboratory in Moscow by Mikhail Lomonosov in the 18th century
Since 2017, about 40 countries have joined the education project, which aims to popularise chemistry. Part of the program is online, where non-chemists and scientists alike can test their knowledge of chemistry at the '
Mendeleev Lab'. In the course of answering the questions, you can find out whether there is water on the sun, or if hogweed gives you burns. Our University was the Regional hub for the celebrations, which were marked by events coordinated by the Institute's Dean, Professor
Olga Lebedeva. 60 visitors toured the labs, and were able to conduct or witness experiments, and talk with students and staff on the 39 tasks open for inspection. The day was rounded off by a chemistry demonstration given by Doctor
Irina Blinova and Senior Researcher
Elena Oleinits. Staff and students then handed out keepsakes for all who took part.
