International Student's Day was marked at Belgorod State University with a program of festivities highlighting just how international our students are, and showcasing some of the talent at large within the University
Rosmolodezh, the state-sponsored youth organisation, is behind the event. This year's theme was typically aspirational and well-intentioned. Visitors were given 'International Student Passports' as they entered the Student Union building, the centre of the festival. The entertainment started with traditional Russian folk dances and songs. The Rector, Professor Oleg Polukhin, dropped by to open proceedings, and then met with the students. In his speech, he underlined the importance of diplomacy, and reminded all present, that it starts with mutual respect and understanding. The Rector is very enthusiastic about expanding Russian education abroad, and proud of the fact that students from 92 countries have chosen to study here.
Guests were then treated to performances from nearly all the dance troupes and musical groups active in the University. Some students from other universities in the city also took part. Students organised games and talks for their fellows, and a good time was had by all.
