A Belgorod State University student is among the finalists of the Babylon V international translation contest
The competition was held at the initiative of the “Kniga vo vremeni” library and the Eikonal studio, St. Petersburg. 80 young translators from six countries took part.
The competition assignment was a subtitle translation for a short film. Elena Uzhva, student of group 04001505 of the Institute of Intercultural Communication and International Relations, chose the short film “The Last Chancellery” for translation. An extremely important aspect of the films translation is accurate calculation of each phrase length: the subtitles run time must match the length of each spoken phrase.
The young translator notes that translating film subtitles was a very interesting and informative task.
Should be noted that earlier the Institute of Intercultural Communication and International Relations students Marina Tretyakova and Valentin Vlasov participated in a project on translating TV shows from English to Russian, and then reflected on the experience at the annual International Translator’s Day panel discussion.
