The Centre of Belgorod for Intercultural Communication of State University hosted a panel session on “The Cultural Diversity of the Peoples of Russia”, based on the peoples of the Far East and the Cossacks as examples.
The event was held as part of the Year of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia and was dedicated to the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
Students of the Institute for Intercultural Communication and International Relations, members of the “Welcome to Russia” student club, introduced international students, including students of Preparatory Department, to the cultural specifics of the peoples living in the regions of the Russian Federation, where the speakers were born and where they came from to study at Belgorod State University.
Those attending the event learned about the origin of the Cossacks, the native territories of the free Cossack communities, the Cossacks as a privileged military estate, serving for the good of their Motherland, and about the traditions of this nation.
The international students were also told about small indigenous peoples of the Far East – Chukchi, Evenks, Aleuts, Koryaks and others, describing in detail their occupations, housing, transportation, household items, clothing and shoes.
Kristina Khabarova, Director of the Centre for Intercultural Communication, noted that it is extremely important to hold such events so that international trainees have an idea that Russia is a multinational country with almost 200 peoples living in it.
