A new project on Russian history for Preparatory Department students provides information about historical facts and famous personalities in a fascinating way.
Olesya Prudnikova, the Chair of the “Welcome to Russia” Student Association, the Head of the International Student Office English Club, and Mikhail Shashkov, a member of the Association, a student of the History and Philology Department of Pedagogical Institute developed a project for international students who want to learn more about Russian history.
Several educational hours in the “Historical Sketches” series have already been held via videoconferencing. Presentations and video clips are being prepared for the students. International students are especially fascinated by the legends related to historical figures and certain periods of Russian history.
Kristina Khabarova, the Director of the Centre for Intercultural Communication, who oversees the activities of the “Welcome to Russi” Club, said that the involvement of the students in voluntary work was one of the most effective forms of education.
Kristina Khabarova added that joint volunteering contributed to building intercultural communication skills, tolerant attitude among university students towards the representatives of other races, nationalities and religions, strengthening friendly relations between students from all over the world.
It is worth mentioning that during 2022 the members of the “Welcome to Russia” student interethnic club implemented the Buddy programme, organised mentoring of the active Russian students and upper-year international students having good knowledge of Russian language. They also developed a series of “Mentoring” events for the Preparatory Department students and the first-year international students, organised excursions around the university and the city.
