International students learned culture specifics of the peoples of Russia in the context of educational events organized by BelSU Peoples' Friendship Centre, the Centre for Foreign Language Education and ANO “Preobrazheniye”.
The event, dedicated to folklore and art of the peoples of Russia, was included in the series “In the World of Cinema: Watching Films - Learning Russian”, involving students of International Summer Language School, graduates of Preparatory Department, BelSU students of the Institute of Intercultural Communication and International Relations and the Institute of Earth Sciences. The film “The Last Bogatyr”, based on Russian folk tales, epic poems and works of Russian writers, was demonstrated for further discussion. The “Literary Lounge” meeting was also timed to mark Ethnographer's Day.
Olga Lyutova, the Director of Peoples' Friendship Centre, Yulia Klimova and Nadezhda Semashkina, the lecturers of the Department of Russian Language, Professional Speech and Intercultural Communication, participating in the International Summer Language School, introduced international students to the heroes of Russian folklore and fairy tales, various aspects of the household of the peoples of central Russia.
The events participants gained some Russian language knowledge by learning new vocabulary, revising grammar rules related to verbs of motion, nouns declension and cases inflection of adjectives.
According to Olga Lyutova, knowledge of different nations, their culture and lifestyle, cultural artifacts and intellectual culture, is important both for international students, who study the history of the country of residence, and for building intercultural communication in general.
