Belgorod State University recently wrapped up its 17th annual charity marathon, “Kind Words – Good Deeds.”
This year, the Christmas event kicked off with the launch of an interactive Christmas tree on the university’s main website. Anyone wishing to spread kindness could apply to receive a letter from a child requesting a specific New Year’s gift.
Participants in the marathon included teachers, staff, students, and alumni of the university, along with 78 sponsors. These sponsors comprised deputies from the State and Belgorod Regional Dumas, representatives from various ministries and departments of the Belgorod Region, law enforcement agencies, local bank branches, city organization teams, schools in Belgorod and the Belgorod District, and many caring individuals.
Many marathon participants gathered at a New Year’s party to present the eagerly awaited gifts to the children.
In her welcoming speech, Evgeniya Karlovskaya, the rector of Belgorod National Research University, congratulated all attendees on the New Year and Christmas. She encouraged everyone to continue believing in miracles and expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their contributions to the marathon.
Tatyana Nikulina, Director of the Department of Social Policy at BelSU, highlighted that sponsor support enabled the purchase of expensive rehabilitation equipment for a child with disabilities. Additionally, targeted assistance was provided to 256 young patients in social rehabilitation institutions across the Belgorod region, 120 children from low-income families with many siblings, 125 children from families of military personnel, 49 children living in temporary accommodation centers, and 70 children from the Svatovskaya correctional boarding school in Luhansk. Sweet treats from the charity marathon participants also brought joy to 43 lonely individuals, with another 30 gifts sent to defenders of the country.
‘Throughout the marathon, BelSU has focused on several initiatives. We support children's social rehabilitation institutions, organize volunteer events for veterans and lonely elderly individuals, assist low-income families, and provide aid in emergency shelters,’ said Tatyana Nikulina.
This year marked a new collaboration for the university with the Svatovo special correctional boarding school in Luhansk. Gifts for 70 children were generously provided by the Pokolenie Foundation, led by Andrey Skoch. The gifts were packaged in plush bear bags, allowing children to store personal items or pajamas. Additionally, volunteers from BelSU donated stationery and children’s books to Svatovo.
Belgorod State University continues its partnerships with various regional social and rehabilitation centers for minors, including the Anti-Tuberculosis Dispensary, Belgorod Specialized Children’s Home, the Cardiology Department of the Children’s City Hospital, the Nursing Home of the Russian Red Cross, and many others dedicated to supporting children and families in need.
