To commemorate this special occasion, the staff of the Belgorod State University History Centre, the Centre for Civic and Patriotic Education of Students, and the United Trade Union Committee of Belgorod State University organized a patriotic event.
The coat of arms and flag, which serve as the primary symbols of Belgorod State University, were officially approved during a meeting of the BelSU Academic Council on February 2, 2001. In recognition of this significance, 2021 marked the establishment of this date as Belgorod State University Flag Day.
A cherished tradition has emerged, where from early morning, staff members from the History Centre, activists from the Centre for Civic and Patriotic Education, and volunteers – including international students – greet faculty and students across all university campuses in celebration of the holiday. Representatives from the volunteer teams at the BelSU Pedagogical and Law Institutes, as well as the Medical College of the Medical Institute, extended their congratulations to employees, teachers, and students by distributing calendars featuring the university emblem. Additionally, members of the BelSU Students’ Union organized an event where attendees could share their well-wishes for the university, which is celebrating its 149th anniversary this year.
Irina Denisova, director of the Belgorod State University History Centre, emphasized the importance of the flag as a central element in all ceremonies and special events. The flag proudly flies atop all university buildings, and today it also adorns the foyers of these structures.
‘BelSU Flag Day not only honours the history and traditions of the oldest university in the region but also unites all members of our community into one large university family. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our students and colleagues on this special day!’ concluded Irina Denisova.
