As part of the #Lectorium project initiated by Russia’s Ministry of Education, a captivating lecture was presented by Galina Varenykh, a candidate of pharmaceutical sciences.
The event took place at the media centre of the Belgorod National Research University (BelSU), focusing on the benefits of vitamins and dietary supplements. Galina Varenykh, an associate professor at the BelSU Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry, and Biology, led the discussion.
During her lecture, Varenykh highlighted the overwhelming presence of parapharmaceutical products in today’s market, particularly biologically active additives and vitamin preparations. She emphasized the importance of understanding the regulatory framework governing these products, as well as the consumer market, to make informed choices.
"In order to choose these products wisely, it is essential to study the regulations surrounding their use and to understand how to select them correctly," Galina Varenykh stated.
The lecturer explained that vitamins are primarily intended to address deficiency conditions, while dietary supplements serve a preventive role. She also underscored the necessity of consulting a physician before starting any new medication, as there may be risks of overdose, allergic reactions, or undesirable interactions with other medications.
“Neither dietary supplements nor vitamins can replace proper nutrition or prescribed drug therapy; they are merely additions to a healthy lifestyle,” she concluded.
The lecture garnered interest from audiences of various ages. For more details, you can visit the BelSU official VK group.
