Organized by the VPITIPE Coordination Centre in collaboration with the university’s preparatory faculty, the insightful event focused on fostering a culture of interethnic relations and tolerance.
The event, held in a discussion format at Belgorod National Research University (BelSU), aimed to engage students in meaningful dialogue about the importance of cultural exchange.
During the session, participants explored how interethnic relations are shaped by the sharing of cultural values, economic cooperation, and political dialogue. However, it was also acknowledged that these relationships can sometimes be marred by conflicts and tensions.
Margarita Varfolomeeva from the VPITIPE Coordination Centre highlighted a crucial point:
“Respect for the diversity of cultures and ethnocultures is essential. We must seek ways to coexist peacefully and promote mutual development among various peoples.”
She emphasized that culture serves as a bridge connecting generations, providing spiritual support and nurturing peace.
Varfolomeeva further explained that while every nation possesses its own unique traditions and religious beliefs, relationships should be grounded in universal values. A significant challenge remains the lack of mutual understanding and trust among citizens from different countries and backgrounds.
Students actively participated in the discussion, sharing insights about their own traditions and cultural practices. They also shed light on interethnic conflicts occurring in their home countries across Africa, enriching the conversation with their diverse perspectives.
Natalya Ghirenko, curator of the African community at BelSU, underscored the importance of such gatherings.
"In many African nations, we face situations that require coordinated efforts from various religious communities to address social issues and foster peace and stability," she noted.
Ghirenko added that these meetings facilitate experience-sharing and the development of joint projects aimed at enhancing the lives of people, particularly in regions characterized by religious diversity.
