For the second consecutive year, international students from Belgorod State University celebrated Russian Student Day by taking part in the international competition Russian Dictation Online, hosted by Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.
This event is not just a linguistic challenge; it also provides an opportunity to learn more about the Russian language and culture. Each dictation is preceded by a brief lecture on relevant aspects of Russian history and culture.
This year marked the 20th anniversary of the competition, which was dedicated to the 130th anniversary of Anton Chekhov’s play The Seagull.
During the lecture, participants explored key milestones in Chekhov’s life and work, including the creation and theatrical premiere of The Seagull.
The organizers prepared dictation texts tailored to the varying levels of proficiency in Russian as a foreign language among participants. One version was designed for those at the A2-B1 level, while another catered to B2-C1 learners. Eight students from Algeria, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, and Ecuador, who are studying in the preparatory department at the Institute of Cross-Cultural Communication and International Relations, and the Institute of Economics and Management, represented Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) at this international competition. They tackled tasks corresponding to their respective proficiency levels.
