Four associate professors from Belgorod State University traded lecture halls for GMP-compliant production lines, gaining rare hands-on insight into modern drug manufacturing.
Faculty from the Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry, and Biology of Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) have completed an internship at Pharmacor Production LLC in St. Petersburg, a full-cycle manufacturer of medicinal products and dietary supplements operating under GMP standards. The program, titled “New Materials and Chemistry: Production and Analytical Control of Pharmaceutical Substances,” was delivered through a network involving Tomsk State University and Kuban State University as part of the federal “New Materials and Chemistry” national project.
During three days, associate professors Irina Blinova, Svetlana Varushkina, Lyudmila Deineka, and Elena Oleynits studied safety protocols, sanitary regulations, and quality assurance systems – from GMP principles to workflow organization in classified production areas. They also visited the company GFC LLC, which specializes in drug development, manufacturing, and registration.
In quality control laboratories, the faculty observed how raw materials and finished products are tested using modern analytical methods such as high-performance liquid chromatography. They familiarized themselves with a wide range of equipment, including dissolution and disintegration testers, spectrophotometers, automatic titrators, IR spectrometers, pH meters, melting point apparatus, and chromatographs. Special attention was given to registering medicinal products with the Ministry of Health and the principles of contract manufacturing.
“This is a unique experience that not only provides new information but also helps broaden the interdisciplinary approach to university education,” noted Irina Blinova.
