The University recently conducted comprehensive anti-terrorism and fire safety drills, engaging over 3,000 participants, including university security personnel, staff, and students.
The drills aimed to enhance preparedness for potential terrorist threats and fire emergencies across all university facilities. Participants practiced campus emergency procedures alongside security guards, with additional briefings held for those residing in the dormitories of Belgorod National Research University (BelSU). These sessions emphasized compliance with fire safety regulations and improved response strategies for various emergency scenarios.
During the exercises, participants were educated on recognizing civil defence signals such as “VNIMANIYE VSEM” (Attention everyone), “Raketnaya opasnost” (Missile hazard), and “Ugroza ataki bespilotnym vozdushnym sudnom” (Threat of attack by an unmanned aerial vehicle). The drills also included testing the automatic fire alarm systems, fire extinguishing equipment, evacuation routes, and the readiness of underground spaces to shelter individuals in need.
Sergey Uvarov, Head of the BelSU Department of Integrated Security, emphasized that the training was designed to prepare university employees and students – particularly those living in dormitories – for potential emergencies involving terrorist threats, hostage situations, improvised explosive devices, and fires. He highlighted the importance of effective communication between security personnel and emergency services in Belgorod.
“The goals of the training were largely achieved. An analysis of identified deficiencies will guide our future efforts to enhance the skills of university employees and students in responding to various emergency situations,” Uvarov stated.
In total, 3,301 individuals participated in the drills, which were conducted in accordance with the 2025 civil defence plan and the calendar for training on safe and timely evacuation procedures for all individuals present at university facilities.
This initiative underscores BelSU’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for its community.
