The International Youth Interfaith Forum recently convened at the National Centre “Russia,” bringing together over 600 leaders from traditional faiths, government officials, experts, and students from around the globe.
Organized by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, the forum served as a vital platform for exchanging ideas among faith leaders and experts, marking a significant step toward the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. Key topics of discussion included the enduring values that strengthen society irrespective of faith and the promotion of interfaith cooperation.
The Sretensky Theological Academy Seminary Choir set a tone of spiritual unity with their performance of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation, captivating the audience from the very first notes.
In his welcoming address, Sergei Kiriyenko, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, highlighted the historical coexistence of diverse faiths and cultures in Russia.
“The traditional religions of Russia have profoundly influenced our spiritual and moral values, contributing to our rich heritage as a civilizational state. This diversity is both our strength and our immense potential. The issues discussed at this forum are essential and necessitate reflection through open interreligious dialogue,” he stated.
Anna Tsivileva, Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation and Chair of the State Fund for Support of Participants of the “Defenders of the Fatherland” Joint Military Organization, also extended her greetings to participants.
Valery Falkov, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, addressed attendees as well, noting that under the direction of the head of state, the Ministry is dedicated to creating conditions that allow individuals to realize their potential and develop into harmonious, socially responsible citizens through the national project “Youth and Children.”
Preparations for the forum began earlier this year and involved extensive outreach across the country. The Ministry's coordination centres organized over 350 meetings between student youth and representatives of traditional faiths, engaging more than 25,000 participants.
Falkov emphasized that constructive interfaith dialogue fosters a sense of unity among all Russian citizens. Leaders from various traditional faiths also delivered welcoming remarks to the forum participants.
BelSU was represented at this significant event by a delegation led by Margarita Varfolomeeva, Director of the VPITIPE Coordination Centre.
“The International Interreligious Youth Forum provided an expansive platform for promoting traditional spiritual and moral values among youth, where we explored themes of Russian identity and philanthropy,” commented Varfolomeeva regarding her participation in a roundtable discussion titled “New Chersonesus: Experience of Spiritual and Educational Work with Youth.”
