A professor from the Medical Institute at Belgorod National Research University recently conducted a master class on geriatrics for general practitioners at the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Dr. Svetlana Gorelik, a distinguished faculty member specializing in Hospital and Faculty Surgery, was invited to lead this intensive course titled “Characteristics of Elderly Patient Care in Therapeutic Practice: Key Issues in Geriatrics.”
The master class focused on the unique aspects of diagnosing, treating, rehabilitating, and preventing diseases in the elderly population. It emphasized the critical roles that general practitioners, primary care physicians, and family doctors play in managing the care of older patients.
“The participants observed that the number of elderly patients is steadily increasing each year. This demographic requires tailored approaches to treatment and care. The master class provided valuable insights into how general practitioners can effectively manage, treat, rehabilitate, and care for this growing patient population,” commented Dr. Gorelik.
Zhazira Kalmatayeva, Vice-Rector for Research at the Kazakh National Medical University, expressed her gratitude to the leadership of Belgorod State University for sharing best practices and strengthening professional ties between the medical communities of Russia and Kazakhstan. She also thanked Dr. Gorelik for her expert contributions and engaging lectures throughout the course, underscoring the importance of ongoing collaboration in advancing geriatrics in Kazakhstan.
