On Old New Year's Eve, international students from Belgorod State National Research University held a heart-warming Christmas charity event, collecting gifts for young patients in the oncohematology department of the Children’s Regional Clinical Hospital and the Emerald City Palliative Care Centre.
This annual charity concert, organized by the Council of Fellow Countrymen’s Associations and the International Information Centre of the Department of International Cooperation, has been a cherished tradition at Belgorod National Research University (BelSU) for 13 years.
This year, the event welcomed friends and partners from the Belgorod State Universal Scientific Library and various local religious and educational organizations, as well as the International Friendship Club of the Belgorod Region, which connects foreign residents aged 14 to 35. Students from several state universities in Belgorod, including Shukhov Technological University, the Institute of Arts and Culture, and Gorin Agricultural University, also joined in the festivities.
The concert featured pupils from the Belgorod Local Public Organization for Children with Disabilities, who received gifts from foreign representatives of the medical volunteer organization. The program showcased a vibrant array of vocal and choreographic performances by students from Russia, Zambia, Indonesia, Madagascar, Ecuador, Turkmenistan, Ghana, Nigeria, Congo, Colombia, Angola, Senegal, and Burkina Faso. A highlight was the appearance of Ded Moroz (Father Frost), portrayed by an African student, along with a musical and theatrical composition about the birth of Jesus Christ performed by members of the Spanish Conversation Club at BelSU.
The audience was treated to an international student choir singing Christmas carols, as well as a lively New Year’s song performed by the vocal and instrumental ensemble of the Council of Fellow Countrymen’s Associations. Following the concert, all collected gifts were delivered to children undergoing treatment at the hospital and those at the palliative care centre. Donations included educational games, toys, books, stationery, craft supplies, and essential medical items such as absorbent pads, syringes, paper towels, nitrile gloves, and disinfectants.
