Belgorod State University recently hosted the Palette of Languages marathon in honour of International Mother Language Day.
The event saw participation from students representing a diverse array of countries, including Algeria, Armenia, Afghanistan, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Jordan, Turkmenistan, Chad, Ecuador, and many others.
A highlight of the marathon was the international essay competition titled The Language of My Ancestors – the Wealth of the Motherland, organized by the International Friendship Club of the Belgorod Region. The jury comprised students from the Faculty of History and Philology at Belgorod State University. Winners from Russia, Ecuador, and Mali were recognized in various categories, with the complete list of winners available on the International Information Centre’s VK page.
The event also featured a panel discussion titled Native Language – the Soul of the Nation, which included experts from different countries. Moderated by Olga Lyutova, Director of the International Information Centre of the Department of International Cooperation, the discussion focused on the significance of native languages in shaping cultural identity and preserving linguistic diversity. Speakers shared their experiences in safeguarding their native languages and highlighted their vital role in national culture.
Alikhan Nalbiyev emphasized that the Russian language serves as a unifying force in a multi-ethnic country while showcasing the uniqueness of each culture. The marathon program also included master classes in various languages and a range of cultural events, making it a vibrant celebration of linguistic diversity.
