The Chinese Language and Culture Festival marked the finale of celebrations honouring the Chinese New Year.
The joint creative event, In the Rhythm of the Chinese New Year: The Wind of Spring Brings Good Luck, wrapped up a series of festivities hosted by the Institute of Cross-cultural Communication and International Relations at Belgorod National Research University (BelSU). This celebration was dedicated to Chunjie, or the Spring Festival, which is the most significant and longest-running festival in China and other East Asian countries. The event was organized by the Centre for Chinese Language and Culture within еру BelSU International Cooperation Department.
The festivities began with welcoming remarks from esteemed guests, including Olga Lyutova, Director of the International Information Centre, and Dmitry Balanchukov, a winner of the all-Russian Teacher of the Year 2025 competition and assistant professor in the Department of Second Foreign Languages. They congratulated attendees on the Chinese New Year and highlighted the importance of such events in strengthening ties between Russia and China.
A key highlight of the celebration was the awards ceremony recognizing students who excelled in international and domestic competitions and actively participated in events organized by the Centre for Chinese Language and Culture. Their achievements have played a notable role in promoting Chinese language learning at Belgorod State University.
Awards were presented to Huang Lihua, a postgraduate student at the Institute of Earth Sciences and leader of the Chinese community, as well as Sun Qing, a fellow student who won the intellectual round of Mister and Miss International competition. Additionally, Anton Soloshenko, a student at the Institute of Cross-cultural Communication and International Relations, received a certificate for his achievement in the Second Russian-Chinese Competition for Best Translation of Scientific and Technical Texts. Certificates of appreciation were also awarded to ICСIR students Wu Xinyi, Wei Yifang, Margarita Dekhteruk, Ekaterina Smolnitskaya, Ksenia Shamaeva, and Nikita Kuzminov for their active participation in various events and creative competitions.
Following the awards ceremony, a celebratory concert showcased the richness and diversity of Chinese culture. The program featured fan dance performances, traditional Chinese songs and poems, and captivating musical numbers. Of particular interest were recitations of congratulatory poems and presentations of kuaiban, a unique folk art form that combines recitation with rhythmic beats produced by bamboo planks. Attendees enjoyed an enchanting display of Chinese language performed by future translators, educators, and specialists in international relations.
