Olga Lukianova, a first year post-graduate student of Engineering and Physics Department (with specialization in Condensed Matter Physics), an engineer working for the Centre of Structural Ceramics and Engineer Prototyping, has successfully completed a two-month study placement in
the Advanced Ceramics Group at the University of Bremen (Germany).
Participation in work placement opportunity became possible after Olga Lukianova won the Russian National Open Contest for a Presidential Abroad Study Grant in 2013/2014.
In the focus of Olga Lukianova’s scientific interest is silicon nitride based composite ceramics. During the period of study placement in the Advanced Ceramics Group, mechanical and physical characteristics of the material were closely examined. Among mechanical characteristics researched and measured were crack resistance, three- and four-point bending strength, Young's modulus of elasticity, Poisson ratio, modulus of shear and Weibull modulus.
Based on the results of the study placement, Olga Lukianova plans to publish two articles in leading international scientific journals and to prepare
chapters of her candidate degree thesis. She is also determined to continue her cooperation with the Advanced Ceramics Group at the University of
Bremen.
