One of 6 University’s schools of science has been assessed and successfully approved by Ministry of Education and Science. The school in question is the Garden Plants Introduction and Selection scientific school established by Prof. Vladimir Sorokopudov, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences and Head of the BelSU Botanical Garden.
The school has been working since 2000 during which time Prof. Sorokopudov has trained 23 candidates of biological and agricultural sciences with specializations in Botany, Ecology, Pomiculture and viticulture, and Selective breeding and seed production. Together with his 20 postgraduate students, Prof. Sorokopudov is now working over the research on scientific bases of creating new cultivars of rare and unconventional plants and prospects for their use in alimentary products.
Oleg Polukhin, Rector of Belgorod State National Research University, commented on the Prof. Sorokopudov school of science formal approval and highlighted that it was a solid achievement of the University and it would provide true incentive to set and solve new challenging tasks, including development of nine new scientific laboratories. The above mentioned laboratories will operate under guidance of BelSU faculty member Associates and Members of Russian Academy of Sciences.
