In his opening words, prof. Oleg Polukhin, Rector of Belgorod State National Research University, identified near-term objectives for the University. BelSU is determined to develop new science and technology research areas and to broaden the scope for current ones. It’s also important to grow earnings from commercialization of the University’s scientific activity outputs.
In the course of the discussion, the scientists offered their ideas on how to advance scientific activities at the university, increase publication activity and overcome current difficulties.
The University has already had one formally approved school of science, and five out of 42 established scientific research areas qualify for this status. Ten Associates and Members of Russian Academy of Sciences that have joined the Faculty are supposed to help forward the plan to increase the number scientific research areas which is purposed to reach 46 by 2017.
In 2013, the volume of research and design and experimental works reached an all-time high of 780 million roubles ($22.3 million), having overpassed the pre-planned volume by over 100 million roubles. The amount of research and development works is to nearly double by 2017.
Reviewing the results of the discussion, the Rector underlined that the University provided scientific research projects with ample material and technical resources and facilities, allocated funds to foster publication activity and expected the scientists’ adequate response and commitment. He acknowledged the ideas and vision discussed, and thanked the attendees. The participants agreed to hold meetings on regular basis.
