In 2014, 234 students, studying the disciplines other than Linguistics, completed the language training course in the International BelSU Summer Language School.
Initiated by Rector Oleg Polukhin, the BelSU Summer Language School project was launched in 2013 within the framework of the University of the Future Programme. This year the school held four sessions, during which 234 junior BelSU students managed to significantly improve their English language skills.
This year a number of invited Brazilian students took part in the School’s educative and entertaining activities together with BelSU students, sel ected on competition basis.
During the closing ceremony, Alexander Mamatov, BelSU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Informatization, handed the participant certificates to the Summer Language School students.
“I’m glad to see you tired but happy. Now we are finishing our International Language School … You all have spent your time profitably, the strongest made it up to the finish. This year 234 students completed the course. It’s great to have such a project. I’m sure next we’ll continue it, and make it year-round,” said Alexander Mamatov.
Olga Prokhorova, Director of the BelSU Institute of Cross-cultural Communications and International Relations, took the microphone to thank all the participant students for working hard on their studies, expressed the gratitude to teachers, who made the learning process possible and provided modern didactic means and multimedia for it, and once again thanked the Rector’s Office for all-round support to the project.
Ross Lockwood, a teacher fr om England, worked for BelSU International Summer School for the second time. He gave a very moving and encouraging speech, and quickly organized his students to an impromptu performance: they sang a beautiful song they had learnt at his classes.
The closing ceremony was continued by Veresk, the BelSU art studio. The singers performed several popular and much liked songs, and the University’s anthem.
International BelSU Summer Language School was started to help students improve their communication skills and develop creative mind-set. Training professionals, who can easily communicate in English within their occupation, is one of the University’s basic objectives.
The Summer Language School programme included master classes, lectures, seminars, and themed parties wh ere everyone communicated only in the English language. After classes students could take part in various sports activities.
The special guestsof this session were Michael Binyon, a reporter of The Times, a well-known daily British newspaper, Ross Lockwood, a teacher from England, and Valentin Doborovich, a teacher from Interlingua, a Belgorod language school which actively cooperates with BelSU.
