Rector has set tasks

In his report, Professor Oleg Polukhin, Rector of the University, focused on the achievements, problems and future plans concerning educational, international and pedagogical activities.

In the sphere of education, as in the previous academic year, special attention is paid to the concept of practice-oriented education, the expansion of interaction with prospective employers, optimization of training directions and specialist fields, taking into account the needs of the labor market. Summarizing the results of the admission campaign, according to which more than five thousand applicants will become students of the Belgorod National Research University, Rector noted that the university has very good material and technical resources and highly-qualified academic and teaching staff, including 12 academicians and corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences who can educate highly skilled professionals for all areas of the economy. At the same time, the labor market is in need of biotechnologists, mining engineers, IT-specialists, etc. Therefore it is necessary to adjust and enhance career-guidance work in this direction.

Professor Polukhin has noted the university’s advances in international cooperation development. For example, in 2013-2014 academic year the university has concluded 24 cooperation agreements, and realized 16 joint educational programmes, including Double Degree Programmes. But he has noticed that the most important thing here is not the quantity but quality. The expanding of cooperation with a number of the university’s partner companies in Latin America, Middle East and the Republic of India in the sphere of foreign students recruiting has favoured the further increase of educational services exports during the reporting period. The number of the BelSU Institute of Medicine Indian students has almost been doubled and amounted to 75, first of all, due to the successful start-up of the programme “General medicine” in English in 2013.

In the expired academic year BelSU has become one of the Russian partner universities of the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology.Rector has also said, that the Belgorod National Research University’s application to join the International Association of Universities has already been approved. The headquarters of the International Association of Universities is situated in Paris.

Regarding the university’s scientific work, Rector has reported, that in the 1st half-year period of 2014 the BelSU scientists were engaged in 90 projects in the framework of Federal Target Programmes, funds, President grants etc.

Professor Polukhin has also set the tasks concerning educational activities, student self-governance activization, realization of the programme “Health Protection” and sport development.

At the end of his speech Rector has congratulated the collective body of the university with the beginning of the new academic year and wished the employees reaching higher heights, joy of creation, happiness, health and well-being.
