The participants of a round-table conference at “Interfaks” press-center, dedicated to the problems of import substitution for veterinary medical products and supplementary feed, supported the building of vivarium at BelSU botanical garden
The round-table conference took place as part of the XХ inter-regional exposition “BelgorodAgro – 2015”
The decision to build the first vivarium in Belgorod region was made in July, 2015. It would be the ground for research with use of laboratory animals for the registration certificate, which is necessary for medicines’ introduction to national and international market.
Director of the Centre of Pre-Clinical and Clinical Studies Mikhail Pokrovskiy is positive that this vivarium is necessary not only for the region, but also for the country. It will allow speeding up the procedure of medical products’ introduction to the market.
“Everyone should understand that today we can’t abandon the experiments on laboratory animals. It is impossible and inefficient,” – he said.
State Veterinary Inspector of the Region Aleksey Khmyrov reminded that such experiments also help to get data about the wash-out period for the medicine, which is also highly important.
“Specialists study dosing of every medical product. The tests may be run on animals in different state, including pregnant ones, – we must check drug effect and side effects in different situations. We must know what dosage is the most effective”, – said Aleksey Vladimirovich.
During the discussion, participants concurred that nowadays there is no other options for medical testing. Experiments on animals can provide data on medicine’s influence on organism and side-effects. It is the most important information for people’s healthcare.
