Academic exchange of medical students was discussed at BelSU Institute of Medicine

Director of Institute of Medicine Vladimir Kulikovskiy met the president of National Union of Medical Students’ Mikhail Meshkov and vice-president Kirill Kuzmichyov at Belgorod Regional St. Ioasaf Clinical Hospital. At the round table conference “Medical Students’ International Exchange” they’ve discussed possibilities of dynamic development of medical students’ academic exchange and research, international professional and cultural connections with foreign medical universities.

The Dean of Medical Affairs and Pediatrics Department Prof. Nina Zhernakova, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Vice Dean for Russian-speaking Foreign Students Olga Kistenyova, director of the Centre for development and organization of cooperation with priority regions of the world Mikhail Pisarenko and students of “General Medicine” specialty have also took part in the conference.

The participants discussed special features of professional exchange program, which give students an opportunity to get acquainted with foreign health care systems and exchange knowledge, ideas and experience with colleagues from other countries. The program schedule allows students to have 4-weeks internship at foreign medical facilities. At the end of the internship the students would receive an international certificate. Besides, it is a good opportunity to improve English language skills and become the part of international medical community.

There are two types of academic exchanges at IFMSA Professional Exchange program: Bilateral – two-sided exchange, which involves not only internship but also participation in foreign exchange student’s internship in Belgorod. Unilateral – one-sided exchange, including an internship only.

Four countries were presented for the exchange: Mexico, Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro.

International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA) was founded in 1951. It is represented by 980 000 participants from 93 countries. It is the largest students’ organization and was acknowledged by World Health Organization (WHO).
