Russian National Byzantinists conference took place at BelSU

This conference is a respectful scientific forum, gathering historians, art historians, archeologists, philologists etc.

The session was opened by The Principal of BelSU Oleg Polukhin. He greeted honored guests and said that this event is one of the largest scientific forums – more than 120 leading Russian and foreign scientists takes part in it. He also reminded that Belgorod Region is the birthsplace of three major historians-byzantinists: academician Nikodim Kondakov, metropolite Makariy Bulgakov and professor Ivan Grevs. Также ректор отметил, что византийская идея должна внести свой вклад в исторически оправданное дело интеграции стран и народов, придерживающихся общих цивилизационных принципов.

«Underestimation of humane sciences is dangerous for national self-consciousness. Humane sciences are necessary for civic mindedness and forming of patriotism», – he said.

The president of MSU History Department, RAS academician Sergei Karpov said the Principal and organize of the Forum for the comfortable environment made for the conference.

“We choose Belgorod State University, because it has one of the consolidative Byzantium history schools. We value scientific work of Belgorod scientists and BelSU’s role in culture and education” ­– he said.

The conference gathered the leading specialists from MSU, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Serbia, Belorussia, Ukraine, Armenia, Georgia etc.

They will discuss broad range of questions about Byzantium politics, culture, architecture, arts and history.
