Students and Post-graduates from our University won 16 medals at a national championship organised by the Russian Student Sports Union for Arm Wrestling.
The championship, held at the Svetlana Khorkina Sports Centre, saw more than 130 competitors from 40 universities across the country.
Students and Post-graduates from BSNRU won 16 medals in individual competitions, with seven of our athletes topping the podium. Seven more students took silver and two were awarded bronze medals. Professor Igor Nikulin, the Dean of the Pedagogical Institute's Faculty of Physical Education, and Tournament Referee, had these words,
“I would especially like to highlight the fact that Elizabeth Reshetnik, an undergraduate at the Faculty, has become Russian Student Champion for the 6th time in a row. I would also like to congratulate Rustam Abdi Oglu, David Shamey and Denis Tolmachyov on achieving 'Master of Sports' status at this competition. Maxim Zagoruychenko and Timur Mamedov, also pleased the home crowd by winning in their categories.”
BSNRU also took first place in the team classification, with second going to the team from the North-Caucasian Mining and Metallurgical Institute, and third place going to Orel State University. The awards ceremony was conducted by Dr Svetlana Ostrikova, the Vice-Rector for Cultural and Educational Affairs, alongside Professor Nikulin.
