BNRU was represented at a Conference organised by the Philosophy Department of the University of St. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava.
Professor Nikolai Alefirenko, head of the Department of Russian Language and Literature at BNRU, took part in the forum on 'Defining the Image of the World in Russian Language, Culture and Literature'. This involved discussion on specific aspects of the 'Russian world view' encompassing Russian language, phraseology, fiction and other ways of depicting the world around them.
Professor Alefirenko delivered a talk on 'Phraseology as an Expression of Ethnicity and Cultural Synergy in the Russian World.' He also chaired a discussion on the philological problems of Ethnicity and Cultural research in describing a Russian picture of the world, and participated in a discussion on the prospects of cooperation between philologists from both our Universities.
The success of this year's event impressed our colleagues in Trnava, and they proposed a similar conference next year, and that it become an annual event. The philologists believe that this cooperation could become a basis for the development of joint grant projects.
The forum received support from Jozef Viskupič, the chairman of the Trnava Self-Governing Region, Peter Bročka, the mayor of the city of Trnava, and the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Bratislava. Professor Oleg Polukhin, Rector of BNRU, personally helped Professor Alefirenko with the trip.
