The University is hosting a qualifying round of the 'WorldSkills Russia' competition
This year sees a début for two categories, 'Business IT Solutions' and 'Entrepreneurship'. The opening ceremony was well attended, with guests from the WorldSkills organisation and local businesses joined by University staff and students from the Institutes of Management, and Engineering Technology and Resource Management. In his opening speech, Dr Alexander Galtsev, Head of Admissions, and Director of the Centre for University Preparation, commented that involvement in the WorldSkills competition is a significant step in the development of internationally recognised experts. Dr Maria Pravdina, an expert in 'Business IT Solutions', said that the problems facing the students in this category, are comparable to the tasks set at the German national WorldSkills competition, and as such, are a complex challenge for students at a preliminary stage.
Five students will take on the 'Business IT Solutions' program, while ten will attempt the 'Entrepreneurship' challenge. They will be assessed by sixteen certified WorldSkills assessors, who are also BNRU staff members. They will have a wonderful opportunity to meet with businessmen, potential employers, and invited experts, as well as additional lectures from BNRU teachers.
