The Faculty of Engineering hosted the 'Opportunity Lab' Summer School. It is run for schoolchildren, and involved students from Belgorod, Stary Oskol, Moscow and Leningrad Region
Students were divided into groups, and in the two weeks of the school, managed to complete 34 projects on an engineering theme. There was also a lot of fun to be had, with summer activities designed to appeal to all ages and ability levels. Dr Olga Khudasova, Director of the Faculty of Engineering, explained further, saying,
“In designing our Summer School, we strove to create an educational process, focused on engineering, that achieved a number of goals. We wanted each student to feel important, nurtured and to enjoy their summer holidays. We tailored the course according to the age of children, and, as far as possible, to their characters and interests. I wanted to make sure that they had time for study, and time for relaxation.”
The School concluded with a 'Defence' of their projects, which simulated the way things are done at the Faculty of Engineering. The panel found it hard to choose a winner, and were delighted at the quality of the submitted work. Many of the projects were aimed at solving practical problems.
