Students from BNRU's Institute of Earth Science took part in the clean up of the banks of the Vorskla River in Borisovka District
The effort was organised by the Regional Department for Agriculture, Industry and the Environment, alongside the 'Rosprirodnadzor' Environmental Protection Administration, as part of the annual 'Waterways of Russia' day of action sponsored by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology.
Participating students were in their final year of the 'Ecology and Nature Management' course, and most of them were already members of the Ecological Youth group. They worked with employees from the aforementioned state departments, as well as the Regional Forestry and Hunting Administration, the 'Zheniya' volunteer group, and volunteers from the general public.
The 'Waterways of Russia' day of action was held for the first time in 2014, and unites hundreds of thousands of volunteers throughout the country, in an effort to clean up the banks of waterways and lakes. Along with cleaning, educational activities are held to raise awareness of the fact that every person can make a personal contribution to the conservation of water resources. Anyone can organise an event in their area. To get involved, go to the 'Waterways of Russia' website at
