Entry into this list marks the latest success for our University in its continuous upward trajectory since achieving 'National Research University' status in 2010. This definitive Ranking of the world's best 1258 universities, places us 14th in the Russian Federation
The Times Higher Education World University Ranking (THE) is the most prestigious international rating of global institutes of higher education. This is the first time we have made the list, entering 801+ group. Our success is due to our increased presence in the global academic space, and our focus on publishing research and engagement with overseas students. This is all part of a carefully deliberated plan initiated by Professor Oleg Polukhin, Rector of BNRU, called the 'Program to Improve the Status of BNRU Among the World's Leading Scientific and Educational Centres', launched in 2013. He explained,
“Our program calls for the University's inclusion in the 3 most prestigious Ranking systems by 2020. We launched this initiative independently of any Government Initiative. We have already made the top 100 in the Shanghai Rankings, we are enjoying our 2nd year there due to our work in metallurgical engineering. Now we have entered the THE Ranking, and just in time for our birthday, the 26th September. This is the kind of gift that pleases us, a clear and explicit demonstration of our upward trajectory. All that's left on the list is the QS Ranking, and I am sure we will make that in due course.”
This year the number of higher education institutions in the Russian Federation increased from 27 to 35. Only 2 'Black Earth' area Universities made the list, with Voronezh University making the 1001+ group. Our 801+ ranking puts us on a par with Samara State University, the Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the Novosibirsk State Technical University and the Kazan National Research Technological University. Of note were our rank of 537 in 'Knowledge Transfer' which is better than average, and of 668 in 'International Outlook'.
