BNRU's Equestrians got the academic year off to a flyer, with Darya Shalneva winning a medal at the Voronezh Regional Open Cup event held in Yamenskaya Manor on the outskirts of Voronezh
The open event was organised by Voronezh Regional Government's Department of Physical Education and Sports, the Voronezh Regional Federation of Equestrian Sports, and the Yamenskaya Manor Equestrian Sports Centre, and was presided over by Svetlana Tsvetaeva, an International Referee.
The start of the academic year is also, of course, the end of the equestrian season, and this year's Voronezh Open drew in 50 competitors from all over the Black Earth Region of Russia, and further afield, from Rostov, Volgograd and Moscow Regions. Our Region sent several teams.
The tournament is Dressage orientated, with different levels of skill put to the test. Ms Shalneva on Zagryad, a Russian stallion, took a Category 2 silver medal in very difficult conditions, under heavy rain. Nonetheless, the referees were impressed with the level of preparation that went into her performance.
