Around 50 Belgorod State University students and alumni took part in 'Skiing Russia 2019' National Open, and brought home 5 medals
More than 4,000 people attended the event, staged at the Olympia Skiing and Cycling Track on the outskirts of Belgorod. The competitions were divided by age and gender, and tested the athletes over 1km, 5km, or 10km distances. Our team was led by Dr Mikhail Nikitin, of the Physical Education Department, who watched 2018 graduate Oksana Shatalova win the Women's 5km. The rest of the podium was occupied by current students, with Anastasia Zhmenya winning silver, and Victoria Saltanova taking bronze. There was success, too, in the Men's 10km, with Alexander Ilyin taking silver, and a bronze for Artyom Maltsev, who graduated in the summer.
