The Academic Council met to discuss the progress of Belgorod State University, in a comprehensive assessment of key performance indicators
Dr Igor Konstantinov, Vice-Rector for Science, laid out his findings in terms of the 2010-2019 ten-year plan, which has been the foundation principle for all of the University's efforts at improvement. The heart of the plan is establishing the University as a world-class centre for science and education. He gave a summary of the areas where we have performed well, and talked about 2018's achievements, but then dwelt on areas that are at risk of falling short, emphasising that this is the final year, and there is little time to implement necessary programs. Among those achievements was the strengthening of our position in world rankings.
Professor Oleg Polukhin, Rector of the University, was pleased that we never went beyond the 'red flags' outlined in the plan, and that we had met all the key performance indicators. The Rector stated that we should not rest on our laurels, but realise that we need to compare ourselves to other National Research Universities, and world-wide competition. He pointed out that they are a true representation of where our strategic priorities should lie.
The Council also heard a report on 2018's scientific activity, given by Dr Larisa Verzunova, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs. There was also a summary of the University's commercial activity through its 'Razvitya' (Development) Corporation, which partners the University with small and medium enterprises throughout the Region, given by Alexei Khmyrov, acting Vice-Rector for Innovation and Production.
