Students from 40 universities across 22 Regions of Russia descended on Belgorod State University to participate in the competition
The venue for the event is the University's Khorkina Sport Centre. The competitors were greeted by Oleg Serdyukov, Head of Belgorod Regional Department for Physical Culture and Sports, Dr Svetlana Ostrikova, Vice-Rector for Education and Youth Policy, and our colleague Dr Igor Nikulin, who, as well as being the Chief Judge for the competition, is also head coach of our team and a member of the Praesidium of the National Arm Wrestling Federation.
Mr Serdyukov presented Elizaveta Reshetnik with her International Master of Sports Certificate, and Nikita Merker with his National Master of Sports Certificate, both earned at the last competition. Dr Ostrikova had some words of greeting, saying,
“Over the years, our University has produced 150 athletes who went on to achieve success at World and European Championship level, and 20, who have competed on the Olympic stage. We trust that this number will increase in the near future.”
The winners of this competition will be awarded Master of Sport status, putting them in an elite category. The judging panel invited colleagues from Kharkhov in Ukraine to help with duties.
