Belgorod State University kicked off a program designed to promote the integration of international students, with a 3 on 3 basketball competition
As is customary in these parts, the event was formally opened by a Vice-Rector, Dr Svetlana Ostrikova, and involved a performance or two. On this occasion, it was a rhythm dance performance and cultural offerings from Latin America. Dr Vladimir Rudenko organised the program, which features swimming, chess, futsal, volleyball and athletics, as well as basketball.
The winning team (perhaps bolstered by home advantage and a larger recruitment pool), Russia, narrowly beat the Chinese team, 9-8. Third place went to the continent of South America, who got the better of the Middle East, 3-2.
Maybe then, not quite a mini Olympics, but, at any rate, everyone enjoyed themselves, and made new friends.
