Belgorod State University won gold at the ‘Belgorod in Bloom’ International Flower Festival
The Belgorod in Bloom Festival, held in the Regional capital, brought together 142 participants from three countries and 26 cities across Russia, whose works included unusual floral art, sculptures and topiary.
The works were divided into four categories. ‘Professional Gardens’ was for work created by professional designers, ‘New Faces’ for young designers, ‘Come Visit’ for municipal departments, ‘World of Flowers’ for school-age children, ‘Creative City’ for commercial businesses and ‘Contemporary Art’ for artists. The jury was led by Karina Lazareva, President of the Guild of Landscape Industry Professionals, a national organisation to which Marina Evtukhova was seconded. Marina is the head of the Department for Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance at the university’s Botanical Gardens.
Belgorod State University put forward a design called ‘The City Where Love Lives’, which was submitted in the ‘New Faces’ category. It was created by a team of students and teachers from the Institute for Earth Sciences and the staff at the Botanical Garden. The artistic composition won top prize, and was used as a backdrop for a plethora of selfies and posed shots.
The team was warmly congratulated by our enthusiastic Rector, Professor Oleg Polukhin, who is a big fan of all things horticultural.
