Spotlight on COVID-19 prevention

Belgorod State University is continuing a series of open lectures in the field of virology by leading virology scholars, among them are Mikhail Mikhailov (Moscow), Doctor of Science in Medicine, Professor, the RAS associate member, Lab Supervisor at the Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums them. I.I. Mechnikov, and Elena Malinnikova (Moscow), Doctor of Science in Medicine, Professor, the Head of the Virology Department at the RMACPE. The scientists explain the characters of coronavirus infection and preventive vaccination in simple terms and share the results of their own research and observations, as well as the studies results conducted by leading virologists from all over the world. Their audience includes students of the Institute of Economics and Management, Institute of Pharmacy, Chemistry and Biology, Institute of Engineering and Natural Science, and the Institute of Earth Sciences.

Special emphasis is placed on the idea, that only true data and evidence-based medicine can help the mankind to cope with the dangerous illnesses of our age, which is certainly coronavirus along with many other acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI).

The lecture touches upon the topic of immune development and especially the topic of vaccination. According to Professor Elena Malinnikova, about two hundred types of vaccines are in development around the world, while four domestic vaccines have already been registered.

Whereas, during his lecture on preventive measures, Professor Mikhail Mikhailov emphasizes the combined application as the most effective approach. Also, mass vaccination remains indispensable.

“We have already suffered so many grievous losses, and I will keep saying that it is possible to prevent new losses and another COVID wave, if we use conscious approach in terms of vaccination to save not only our lives, but also the lives of our loved ones," summarized Mikhail Ivanovich.

After the lecture, the students had a unique opportunity to ask questions and get responsible answers coming from the scientists with breakthrough knowledge in viral infections. The lecture broadcast is available in the official group of BelSU VK.
