The sports tourism team returned from a hike in historical places of the Western Caucasus
BelSU team for sports tourism went on a hiking trip along the Abishira-Akhuba mountain range, in the Western Caucasus near Arkhyz village.
The group included members of BelSU tourist club Vertical – students of Pedagogical Institute Nikita Rylsky, Anton Sherkevich, Yana Zhdanova, Amina Belchikova and a student of Law Institute Ekaterina Tikhonenko.
In a week and a half, the students crossed 8 mountain passes at an altitude of 2,800 to 3,200 m, climbed Rechepsta mountain, the highest peak of the range. The team’s motto is: “Not a step back, not a step on the spot, only forward and only all together with BelSU!”. At each checkpoint, the students unfurled the university flag.
As the head of the group, Sergey Rylsky, Master of Sports in Sports Tourism, noted the event is timed to the 145th anniversary of BelSU.
“The trip turned out to be very complicated, as it was arranged during the off-season. Obstacles were passed through snow-covered mountains, the depth of the snow cover reached 50 to 70 cm, temperature dropped 10 degrees below zero at night. At the same time, the group completed a route of 135 km in nine days, showing a high level of physical and technical training,” said Sergey Rylsky.
To ensure safety when passing the most difficult and dangerous areas, safety systems, ropes were used, participants moved in bundles.
“The route planned by the group was entirely completed, despite extremely harsh weather conditions. It confirms that the tourists of our university are among the strongest in the country. This route will be presented at Russian Student Union Championship in Sports tourism,” summed up Sergey Rylsky.
