The Preparatory Department of Belgorod State University become the venue for the annual international declamation contest “I Read Poetry in Russian” bringing together international students of Belgorod State University, V.G. Shukhov Belgorod State Technical University and Belgorod State Institute of Arts and Culture.
Love, friendship, family, victory – the eternal themes covered by the poetry of Russian authors A. Pushkin, S. Esenin, F. Tyutchev, K. Simonov, B. Pasternak, I. Turgenev, A. Dementyev, B. Okudzhava, S. Mikhalkov, A. Usachev, R. Rozhdestvensky, E. Asadov, Y. Drunina, M. Tsvetaeva, that were performed by the contestants.
“The contest “I read poetry in Russian” is a good tradition of our department and an occasion for talents attraction. Poetic language has always captured by its inscrutability. When studying literature, we touch the individual’s heart”, said the Deputy Head of Preparatory Department Elena Nazarenko in her opening address.
The lecturers of BelSU Institute of Intercultural Communication and International Relations trained the competing students by using a creative approach. They were nominated in pairs, in collective performance, in solo performance, to demonstrate the best phonetics and profound understanding of a poetic work. Participants from different countries also joined the event via videoconferencing.
The jury members Nadezhda Tarasenko, the Director of Montessori Pedagogical Centre, and Alexander Oberemok, a member of the Union of Writers and the editor of BelSU Publishing House, who evaluated the contestants’ oratorical skill for the first time, noted talent of the young people and their interest in Russian language.
The first place in the declamation contest was taken by Alkhusin Abdullah, a Preparatory Department student from Syria, who recited a poetic prayer in memory of his mother.
Professor Tatiana Samosenkova, the jury chair, awarded the winners with certificates and wished the participants to keep fond memories of their life and studies in Russia.
