The VII All-Russian Scientific Conference “Karamzin Readings” was held via videoconference and brought together over 170 participants.
The readings were organised by Belgorod State University and the N.I. Ryzhkov Public Research and Historical Library at Prokhorov Field. The conference was supported by the regional branch of Russian Historical Society, chaired by the Rector of Belgorod State University Oleg Polukhin.
The traditional conference brought together more than 170 young researchers in the field of history and philology from Belgorod, Moscow, Yaroslavl, Voronezh, Donetsk, Sevastopol and other cities of the country.
The event included 13 sections dedicated to different topics and scientific problems. The participants read papers on historical issues, and the directions reflecting the role of Russian language in culture and history, Russian history echoing in philology and diachrony of linguistic research. For the first time the conference featured a section on the problems of archives and records management.
As Irina Chumak-Dzun, the Head of Russian Language and Russian Literature Department, pointed out, students participating in such conferences often deal with solving non-standard tasks.
For example, Artem Davtyan, a five-year student, while writing his graduation thesis on the “Speech Portrait of a Character in the Prose of V. M. Shukshin” topic, focused his report on the use of Sovietisms in a character’s speech. This issue proved to be interesting both for the student as well for the present audience, actively participating in the discussion.
